AsBestOS 2.0 -> BootOS 2.01

I can't wait to get my thumbdrive and check this out!  AsBestOS, the unofficial PS3 OtherOS loader, has been redubbed BootOS, and this new version is said to less prone to error.  It has also been said, though, that 1.5 works better for Ubuntu, and 2.0/2.01 work better for Debian.  I can't personally verify either, yet.

Fedora

Switched to Fedora 14, from Sabayon Linux.  Fedora is, i think, the perfect combination of functionality, performance and ease of installation.  The installer (Anaconda; supposedly the same installer Sabayon uses, except in Fedora it actually works...) even let me partition my three disks into a couple raid-arrays; one for the root filesystem and one for swap space.  And it did it without flinching, bombing out halfway through, or spontaneously rebooting!

It's almost as well-polished as Ubuntu.  Totem (Movie Player for Gnome) searches for uninstalled codecs and finds them if they're available...  It's really well put-together; then again, Red Hat always used to be, so no surprise there.

Police Raid Graf_Chokolo's House

Graf_chokolo, who has contributed countless things to the PS3 scene, had his private home raided by police this morning. They confiscated all of his "accounts" and anything related to PS3 hacking. Some of you may remember that graf_chokolo promised if he was pushed, that he would release all of his PS3 hypervisor knowledge to the world. He kept good on this promise releasing what is being dubbed as the Hypervisor Bible. "The uploaded files contains his database which is a series of tools for the PS3′s Hypervisor and Hypervisor processes. It will help other devs to reverse engineer the hypervisor of PS3 further."

Icelandic Ultrablue

It's what the astronauts used when they first came to Earth!

Seriously...  i hope that's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen, 'cause damn, i can actually hear my brain cells telling me to never watch that video again!

Bored as eff.

Been a long weekend.

Btw, that car wash pic was totally accidental; i got so bored one night i went through the wash and took pictures to pass the time, and the triangular object in the center is the hub of the rotating sprayer.  Totally accidental and not photoshopped in any way!

Anyway.  I'll post some more meaningful content in the future when i'm not busy.

Coffee

"Borrowed" some Creme Brulee coffee from work.  It's pretty good stuff, but i think i made it a little too strong...  i tried to eyeball about 1/3 of a 12-cup packet into the 4-cup coffee machine, and... well, i'm getting kinda jittery.  :oP

SNES9X-PS3 4.4.5

http://psgroove.com/content.php?774-SNES9x-PS3-4.4.5-Emulator-Released-Includes-New-HD-Version-with-4xSoft

" SNES9x PS3 4.4.5 (FW 1.92+/FW 3.15/FW 3.41/CFW 3.55) changes:

==================================================
Build 4.4.5 (14-02-2010)
==================================================

* New HD Version - every game runs at the SNES' high-resolution mode (512x448 interlaced mode). Try this with the right shader on (4xSoft) and this can make the games look beautiful. Both progressive (1080p/720p/480p/576p) and interlaced modes (480i/576i/1080i) work with this - try interlaced for best results.

* 4xSoft combined with this HD version also beautifies the pseudo hi-res transparent background layers in Kirby's Dreamland 3.

* Triple Buffering option added - enabled by default. Faster graphics/shader performance with triple buffering turned on - some potential input lag with triple buffering on - turn it off in case you experience problems of this nature.

* USB/Bluetooth mouse can be used now for Mouse/Super Scope games.

* Primal Rage works again."

Can't wait to test it, but i gotta get some sleep first!

EDIT:  Got to mess with it before work, briefly.  It looks awesome on my little 720 monitor; i can't wait to see how nice it looks on my friend's big-ass 1080.  The CRT video filter is beautiful...  it even morphs the screen so it looks bowed out like a CRT television!  Now i can swear at Gradius III in glorious high-def!  :oP

EDIT 2:  The hd version looks kinda weird...  if you leave the PS3 set on a progressive video mode, there'll be interlacing artifacts, and if you switch it to an interlaced video mode, there'll be less interlacing artifacts, but a lot of the video filters will look like butt...  i should try the non-hd version, maybe.

It got up to like 55 degrees F today!

~2 weeks ago we got buried in snow, and up until the day before yesterday the temperature had been ~0 F, give or take.  I meant to take my camera to work with me, so i could go out and take pics of everything melting under a sky that hadn't been blue in recent history, but i forgot.  So, i got this pic from out the front window before the sun was too far gone.

I'll try to remember the camera tomorrow!

DeathSphere

I made this using UltraFractal and Photoshop 6, years ago.  Just found it in an old backup set.  It was called both 'SoulSphere' and 'DeathSphere' at different times.  I think the latter is the current one.

3d Dot Game Heroes

3d Dot Game Heroes is the coolest thing EVER.

This is my custom Ignignokt character.  In an ideal world, i would have been able to make him only one pixel thick, and indeed he was originally like that, but that made him have facial features on both sides, and it just wasn't right.  I wanted to make Err also, but his pixels are smaller and it just wasn't gonna happen up to my standards.

Snooky and the metronome

Beer review, first attempt

I should have seen it coming, really...  I picked up a pick-6-pack from the local liquor store, from which i chose a Luna Sea (Empyrean Brewing Co.), a Blue Moon Winter Abbey Ale, a Guinness Draught, a Heineken, a Sam Adams Black Lager, and a Boulevard Irish Ale; and they were drank in that order (iirc).  To give a frame of reference, i started the evening with a Milwaukee's Best Light (that nobody else would drink).

Luna Sea:
My first reaction was, "Wow, this tastes a whole lot fucking better than that Beast Light!"  And, it did.  A lot.  This was probably my favorite beer of the evening, flavor-wise.  On the bottle's label, it says "Custom Brewed To Complement Food: Pair with grilled steak, salmon, BBQ or wild game and caramel desserts," and i had just finished a double-whopper, and i wish i hadn't washed it down with the Beast Light first, because that may have made it even better, but there's always next paycheck.

Blue Moon Winter Abbey Ale:
I like plain ol' Blue Moon, without the orange wedge, but maybe this one would have benefitted from one.  None of the seasonal Blue Moon brews seem to do it for me like the original does.

(Beast Light refresher.)

Guinness Draught:
Shoulda got regular Guinness.  The "rocket" effect just makes the thing too smooth, i think.  Then again, smooth can be a good thing; maybe if i put this one at the end of the list, the smoothness would've been more appreciable...

Heineken:
Starting to get drunk.  I'm not sure, because i always end up drinking Heineken when i'm already a little inebriated, but i could swear it tastes like weed...

(Beast Light refresher...  maybe this is a bad idea...)

Sam Adams Black Lager:
Too drunk to remember.

Boulevard Irish Ale:
Too drunk to remember.

So, in summation, i'm gonna try this again next Friday and see if i can stick to the plan.  :oP

Sony Demanding Identity Of Anyone Who Saw PS3 Jailbreak Video On YouTube

"Sony continues to massively overreact to the news that a hacker figured out how to 'jailbreak' the PS3 in order to re-enable the functionality that Sony had deleted from PS3s. Beyond getting a far overreaching gag order on George Hotz, who figured out the jailbreak, and playing Whac-a-Mole to try to take down the code anywhere it appears, the company has now asked a judge to order Google to provide the IP addresses and other identifying info of anyone who viewed or commented on the video about the jailbreak that was hosted on a private YouTube page."

Mother of God.

The Failanx

Gonna see what all this entails.  Gotta be to work in roughly 20 minutes, though.  I guess "free time" would be a thing that this entails, huh...

Jesus.

Anyway, this site is likely to contain some of the following:

  • Assorted console homebrew
  • Filesystem benchmarking, probably maybe
  • Bitching about Sabayon Linux
  • Ridiculous stories
  • Retarded images
  • Beer reviews, money-willing
  • Random shit-talk
  • Begging for donations for beer reviews

Currently my PS3 runs 3.55-kmeaw FW.  I want to make it run Linux again, and i'm not sure exactly why, 'cause i still remember how well it didn't work with official OtherOS support...  it's just one of those things.

Better get to work.
